Glory to God and Peace Among Men

My mother passed away ten years ago on Christmas Eve. She was totally at peace and eager to see her Savior face-to-face.

Not so my father.

In the last hours of his life, he was anything but peaceful. He was painfully aware of his many sins but had not put his trust in Christ. He had many doubts and no assurance of what would meet him when he left this world.

Little did he know that in the last hour of his life, a promise made two thousand years ago would be fulfilled in his life.

For the rest of the story, please watch this 18-minute video of a message I gave in our church on Christmas Eve.

If you prefer, you can listen to an audio recording of this message.

Never underestimate how God can work through your relationships to display his glory and draw people into his kingdom, even minutes before they die.

“Glory to God on high and on earth peace, good will among men!”

Reflection Questions:

  • How does the quality of our personal relationships impact our testimony about the reality of God and the power of the gospel? (see John 17:20-23; Acts 2:42-47; John 13:34-35)
  • When non-Christians observe your relationships, what evidence are they seeing of God’s transforming work in your life? (see 2 Cor. 3:18; Gal. 5:22-23)
  • What could you do differently in the days ahead that would display the glory of God’s saving and transforming power in your life?

Three Values that Improve Every Relationship

I’ve hired many people … and fired only a few. My best co-workers thrived because of three key character qualities. The disappointing ones struggled because they lacked the very same qualities. I’ve noticed an identical dynamic in friendships, marriages and...

Spanglish

Today’s movie clip is one of my favorites. It illustrates several key relational skills, including empathy, self-control, and the use of perceptive questions rather than forceful arguments. The clip is taken from the movie, Spanglish. Its central character, Flor, is a...

The Golden Result

We all know the Golden Rule: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” But do you know the Golden Result? “Other people will usually treat you the way you treat them.” Not always, but usually. Because that’s how our brains are wired. Here is a short movie clip...
